Decentralized Science:
DeSciMTL x DeSciTO
cross community event
Bringing together DeSci Montreal and DeSci Toronto as co-hosts in city-to-city networking, DeSciMTL x DeSciTO seeks to broaden & deepen cultural, linguistic, & practical diversity in our movement.
In Decentralized Science* (DeSci), research is conducted, and knowledge is shared, in ways that shift ownership & value away from passive industry intermediaries, into the hands of all active participants.
We'll dive into what this emerging Open Science/Web 3.0 movement is about, & introduce two active projects: DeSciLabs and Gitcoin.
These events gather people from different backgrounds, fields & regions together to have awesome discussions, mix things up, and spark ideas. We aim to make DeSci accessible to all disciplines and walks of life!

Guest Speakers:
Jonathan Starr, Core at DeSciLabs – DeSciLabs is a dedicated team of scientists and engineers determined to reshape the way knowledge is shared. Their goal is to eliminate barriers like data silos, paywalls, and proprietary analytics from scientific communication. Through innovative technologies, they are advancing open and reproducible science while streamlining publishing and funding processes. Their groundbreaking platform, "Nodes," is designed for researchers to effortlessly publish and manage manuscripts, data, code, and research artifacts. "Nodes" promotes open, interoperable, and compute-enabled research objects, ultimately seeking to redefine scientific collaboration and drive innovation.
Boris Dyakov, Program Coordinator (DeSci) at Gitcoin and PhD candidate at the University of Toronto - Gitcoin is a DAO with the mission of helping communities fund their shared needs through quadratic funding. To date, two DeSci grant rounds have cumulatively distributed over $600K to projects in the ecosystem. Boris will discuss the past and future of the DeSci program at Gitcoin, as well as the novel scientific funding models that web3 enables.
