Hi community,

Today is the anniversary of the disastrous 1986 explosion and fire at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in Belorussia. Marking the occasion, I am recommending the film linked below (on YouTube), which is a very interesting view into forms of cultural response in the face of massive ecological and social disruption.

I have no idea how the war in Ukraine is affecting people across the region where the Chernobyl emergency began and still ongoing – if you have news from there, please share!

Hope everyone is doing well today

Subject: 🚩 STALKING CHERNOBYL is now available on Youtube!

APRIL 26 is recognized internationally as Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day.

To mark the occasion, we are making our latest documentary STALKING CHERNOBYL:
Exploration after Apocalypse available for viewing on YouTube!
➤ The documentary examines the underground culture of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Three decades after the world's most infamous nuclear disaster, wildlife has returned in the absence of human settlements. Meanwhile, illegal hiking adventurers known as "stalkers," extreme sports aficionados, artists, and tour companies have begun to explore anew the ghostly, post-apocalyptic landscape.

We send love and solidarity to our film crew and friends in Ukraine!

When we shot this film just a few years ago, the Chernobyl nuclear plant and the catastrophe that took place there were rarely in the news anymore. However, since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the war has thrust Chernobyl into the headlines in a new way. When the plant fell under Russian control for several weeks in early 2022 and Russian troops held workers as hostages, experts raised alarms about the risk of a nuclear meltdown or hazardous waste escaping. Electricity to the plant was intermittently cut off, and there was shelling in the surrounding area, creating a maelstrom of potential risks. Russia has since retreated from the Exclusion Zone, but its occupation was a reminder about why Chernobyl remains relevant. We like to think of the Chernobyl area as frozen in the past, but the situation and the place experience constant change, just like the natural environment.
