City of Toronto COVID-19 Relief Project

Accessible Education Workshop


The Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians, Toronto Chapter with funding from the City of Toronto presents Pivoting to Accessible Education-A Training Workshop. You are invited to participate in a free interactive training workshop that will equip you with resources and tip sheets for presenting accessible education for successful teaching strategies. This training workshop will prepare you to take a leadership role to create course materials and learn different teaching methods that are designed to be inclusive for all students, especially those with disabilities.


Date and Time: Tuesday, April 6, 2021 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM         


The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically altered the way we work, communicate, learn, and deliver education. The pandemic has shone a spotlight on the barriers that students with disabilities and teachers are experiencing.  What is enduring is the value of accessibility. When we speak about accessibility, we are talking about universality and increasing usability for as many people as possible. This approach of prioritizing accessibility when it comes to implementing best practices for delivering accessible education, staff training, website design, documents, and other technology with accessibility in mind yields benefits for students, parents, and educators.



Workshop Outcomes

ü  Accessible education toolkit with inclusive teaching strategies and tips

ü  Identify and address barriers and build an action plan to address these barriers.

ü  Tips for teaching an accessible online course.

ü  Guide on how to navigate disclosure of disability.
