Hi John:

The primary way maturity models have come up in discussions I've had is
about employment equity through recruitment, promotion, mentorship and
leadership. Presumably that requires a form of measurement of diversity as
a baseline, a strategy for each of those (recruitment to promotion to
leadership) and a transparent mechanism for evaluating and monitoring
performance.

So maybe to enact such a model, it's important to have some advisory board
and commissioned research to determine where the gaps are in each of those
areas, in order to create a good measurement vehicle. That way, you embed
accountability to this board with goals, expectation, timelines, etc.

Maybe it's also worth looking at organizations that used hiring and
promotion as a vehicle for transformation, and what worked/didn't. And it
might help to do a scan across disabilities and functional needs to ensure
that any hidden pain points are noticed.

Plus as you were saying to me, sometimes it's about navigating systems and
finding pathways. So you'd want to bring people on board from the
organization itself who are good at identifying some of those pathways that
are either blocked or even a portal to change.

What does inclusive snakes and ladders look like?

C.
