Dear stakeholder,

Accessibility Standards Canada creates and reviews accessibility standards for federally regulated organizations. We are developing guidelines on accessible communication in the context of COVID-19. These guidelines would also be useful during other types of emergencies.

The guidelines are specifically for federally regulated organizations. They can also guide all Canadians. We want to hear your thoughts before making them public.

Take part in a roundtable discussion

We will be holding online discussions in both official languages on Zoom. Our English session will be held on December 7 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EST. Our French session will be held on December 8 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EST. These discussions will include stakeholders from:

·      Organizations from the disability community

·      Government

·      Other relevant communities

Please let us know if you have any accessibility needs and in which official language you would like to participate. We want to be sure that this meeting is accessible to you.

The draft guidelines will be sent to those attending the meeting one week before the event. Please do not share the draft guidelines. They have not been made public.

Other sets of guidelines

Please note that we will also be creating guidelines in three other areas related to pandemics. They are:

·      Accessible service delivery

·      Barriers created by emergency and public health measures

We have also recently created guidelines for working from home and returning to the workplace, which will be released shortly.

Bonjour,

Normes d'accessibilité Canada crée et révise les normes d'accessibilité pour les organisations sous réglementation fédérale. Nous élaborons présentement des lignes directrices sur l'accessibilité des communications dans le contexte de la COVID-19. Ces lignes directrices pourraient aussi être utiles lors d'autres types d'urgences.

Les lignes directrices s'adressent spécifiquement aux organisations sous réglementation fédérale. Elles peuvent également servir de guide à tous les Canadiens. Nous voulons connaître votre opinion avant de les rendre publiques.

Participez à une table ronde

Notez que nous allons également élaborer des lignes directrices dans trois autres domaines liés aux pandémies. Elles portent sur :

·      les obstacles créés par les mesures d'urgence et de santé publique

Nous avons récemment créé des lignes directrices pour le travail à distance et le retour sur les lieux de travail. Nous les publierons prochainement.
