Greetings, friends and colleagues across the country,

First off, please forgive the scattergun, impersonal approach. As I went through my address book to prepare the long distribution list for this message, I had a moment to think of each of you, warmly and with happy recognition. I hope that you are staying well and safe through this extraordinarily challenging time of struggle, and hopefully, transformation.

I wanted to pass along the attached invitation to participate in an online survey that will be used as a foundation for independent monitoring of Canada's implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. You will find the survey at https://surveys.chrc2020-ccdp2020.ca/s3/-EN-FR ; some background information from the survey team is attached to this message.

I've had no involvement in this initiative, but it strikes me as well worth our time in order to present as diverse and inclusive a portrait as possible, and ultimately to advance a thorough and substantive account of the ways in which recognition and enforcement of the rights of people with disabilities is a requisite condition for a truly just and robust democracy.

If you have the time and the energy for this task, which should take 15 to 30 minutes, I hope you will join me in doing so. Importantly as well, please share widely within your networks.

We hope this message finds you and your loved ones well.

We at the Canadian Centre on Disability Studies Inc. o/a Eviance would like to invite you to take part in an important initiative being undertaken by the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC).

This initiative is asking all rights holders from across the country to help shape how the CHRC will monitor the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.  

At this stage, the CHRC is asking for input in the form of an online survey. A link to the survey, which is available in English, French, ASL and LSQ, along with additional information on this initiative, can be found in the attached invitation letter.

This initiative is essential in helping to protect the rights of people with disabilities across Canada. We have been working closely with the CHRC on this and feel that it is important that they hear from as many individuals as possible, which is why we are sharing this invitation with you today.  

We encourage you to take the time to fill out this survey, and hope that you will share it with your networks.
