[community] JS class for beginners

Hi,

Though I can't offer any specifics, I've heard good things about HackerYou, and based on Feriyal's experience those things seem true! My partner did a nine-week intensive course at BitMaker Labs a few years ago, and it was quite comprehensive. They were able to gain employment at a web development shop within a couple weeks of completing the course, as were most of their classmates. I'm not sure how it is these days, but they used to invite employers to meet a graduating cohort and seek out new talent. One student even got hired into IBM based on that networking session, if I recall correctly.

I've also heard very good things about Canada Learning Code (formerly Ladies Learning Code), a not-for-profit that my brother has taught a couple of courses at. Finally, I believe the Toronto Public Library still organizes courses relating to a variety of tech-related subjects.

Gregor

Hi,

I did a "Part time Web development" course at HackerYou. Here are some benefits of taking courses there:

1) They talk a lot about accessibility during their programs.
2) You will usually have 3-4 assignments during you're part time course, which they are portfolio-worthy.
3) You will also have two other TA's at the class, who will help you a lot during the classes.

See the link for JS: http://hackeryou.com/part-time-javascript/
