> Two scholarships are offered to researchers who will build upon our previous work in material thinking and design for ageing populations to develop ways in which design-led research can improve people's lives across a range of social and individual needs. When making your application, please indicate which of the Project Areas your proposal relates to. There will be a particular focus upon ways in which such approaches come together with materials, technologies and artificial intelligence to address real-world challenges in the health, social and environmental spheres. We wish to receive proposals that develop innovation within scientific research into materials in the following thematic areas:
>
> Human Purpose: proposals are invited that consider technological advances that operate at both social and global levels. Areas of particular interest are: dementia, diabetes and post- stroke rehabilitation, which are increasingly visible, but require innovative design-led thinking that builds or sustains independence and safety.
>
> Inclusive Design 3.0: proposals are invited that research and develop the theory and practice of inclusive design, looking at areas it has not traditionally considered. This could include, but is not limited to: social issues in a global context as related to the UN’s eight Millennium development goals; engaging with new forms of technology such as artificial intelligence / virtual reality; intelligent and inclusive mobility.
>
> For informal enquiries re the above 2 themes, please contact Rama Gheerawo, Director of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design by email (rama.gheerawo at rca.ac.uk <mailto:rama.gheerawo at rca.ac.uk>), with your CV (e-mail’s subject: Materials Science Scholarship at RCA).
