Reporting to Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, the Accessibility Coordinator will coordinate and provide leadership to ensure complete compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulations (IASR) and the Ontario Human Rights Code.
The Accessibility Coordinator will also provide leadership to foster awareness towards the requirements of AODA legislation and act as a system advocate for all aspects related to AODA.
Summary of Duties:
Coordinate the implementation and compliance of the AODA & related regulations;
Ensure consistency and integration of practices across TDSB;
Coordinate, monitor and review compliance, identify gaps and recommend resolution to non-compliance issues;
Provide subject matter expertise and act as a resource to senior staff and departments as it relates to AODA implementation and compliance including training, education and communication;
Respond to inquiries and requests for information related accessibility issues;
Act as Board contact with the AODA Directorate (Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure);
Develop, review and update policies and procedures related to AODA legislation including best practices;
Maintain awareness of amendments to AODA related legislation to ensure compliance with changes;
Review and update TDSB multi-year accessibility plan (MYAP), maintain and report on annual reports;
Serve as liaison to AODA committees including chairing of committees and working groups, attending meetings, providing regular updates and ensure communication of information between committees and staff;
Prepare reports, briefing notes, materials and presentations for senior staff, trustees, committees and work groups;
Conduct accessibility audits as required;
Ensure regulated reporting to AODA Directorate is undertaken;
Prepare and post TDSB Accessibility report on TDSB website; ensure website is maintained and regularly updated;
Develop linkages and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders;
Research and analyze best practices in accessibility standards;
Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services; and
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
University degree in a related field (e.g., Social Science, Human Resources) with five years of progressively responsible related experience in accessibility within a public sector environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
In-depth knowledge of the AODA and related legislation, Ontario Human Rights code;
Thorough knowledge accessibility/accommodation and equity issues;
Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity;
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and externally including effective presentation skills;
Demonstrated ability to lead work groups and committees;

Strong research and report writing skills;
Facilitation , training, problem solving and conflict management skills;
Working knowledge of adaptive technology;
Knowledge and understanding of Board policies and procedures, employment/labour legislation, Education Act, Ministry directives, etc.;
Computer skills, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing, presentation packages, email, internet.

Location: This position is currently located at 17 Fairmeadow Avenue (not wheelchair accessible).
