The Spark Program is seeking solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing older adults in our community today. To qualify, project submissions will need to address one of the following themes for older adults living with dementia:
• Emergency department visits: Solutions that avoid or reduce unnecessary emergency department visits for older adults living with dementia
• Falls prevention: Solutions that prevent falls or mitigate injury due to falls in older adults with dementia
• Aging at home: Solutions for better management of complex chronic conditions for older adults with dementia living at home
• Cognitive fitness: Solutions that improve brain health or cognitive fitness in older adults
CC-ABHI will select up to 10 projects for funding through the Spark Program, which means there is up to $500,000 available in support of grassroots innovations for the healthcare sector (maximum of $50,000 per project). In order to have a qualified submission, we are asking applicants to submit an expression of interest by October 3, 2016, while full applications for the Spark Program will be accepted until October 28, 2016.
The process to apply is as follows:
Step 1: Read the Spark Program Call for Innovations – Information Package for details about the application process, timing and selection criteria before submitting your application form.
Step 2: Submit your Expression of Interest by 5 pm on Monday, October 3, 2016.
Step 3: Submit your Application Form by 5 pm on October 28, 2016.
What makes this program so exciting is that we are looking to point-of-care workers to bring ideas forward because we believe that many of the best ideas that can improve brain health and quality of life for older adults will come from point-of-care workers within the healthcare sector. That means that we are looking to allied health professionals, food services staff, housekeeping staff, nurses, personal support workers, physicians– any point-of-care or service staff members who are associated with healthcare delivery, or service provider organizations, to bring their ideas forward and submit an application.
Funding new projects is one of the ways CC-ABHI will help develop products, services and processes to better care for older adults. The Centre aims to make healthcare organizations more effective and more efficient at providing the next level of care, so please share this news with your networks so we can help develop great ideas into real solutions.
