It’s International Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness month (and also Occupational Therapy month!). A silent tea might be an interesting awareness and empathy building event to consider for CAIDR and other groups. Depending on your tea drinkers, you may need to adjust the instructions below (e.g. pen and paper might not be the right medium for someone who requires speech, so an app might be a better tool in that case).

This October Scope encourages you to host a silent morning tea<http://campaign.august.com.au/t/r-l-yddiodk-htttfvur-y/> to celebrate International Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness month and raise awareness about using different ways to communicate other than speech.
It is a great opportunity to engage everyone at your workplace in learning about the challenges faced by people with communication difficulties and reminds everyone of some of the different ways that you can support effective communication.

How it works
· Organise a morning tea for work colleagues or friends.
· Register with us, and download your resources and games to play on the day.
· Print out the resources, game cards and instructions.
· Show the video on a projector or TV.
· Play the games and enjoy your morning tea.
· Remember, NO TALKING!! Use pen and paper, sign language, apps, communication boards, etc.
· Be creative with your communication methods!
· Laughing is okay!
